The 5x3 reels on top count no lines. They decide which tools fall. Every pickaxe heads into its own column and strikes downward until its hits run out. However many hits a tool carries is the most blocks it can remove.
The mine below measures 5x6. Dirt pays nothing and exists only to be cleared. Real scoring starts at stone, and the valuable material sits deep: obsidian pays 25x for one block but holds seven hits. The strongest pickaxe in Mine Drop strikes five times, so none of the four breaks obsidian alone.
A locked chest waits under every column. Clear the column and the chest opens, multiplying the whole round. Open several and the multipliers multiply each other. Paperclip Gaming does not publish the full set of chest values; the bonus panel inside the game shows examples such as x50 and x100.

There are four tiers and the step between them is linear: wooden strikes once, diamond five times. The point is not the strength of one tool but how many land in the same column. Two diamond pickaxes give ten hits, which clears obsidian with room to spare.
Two special symbols help. A Spellbook lifts the pickaxe above it one tier. TNT explodes and damages neighbouring blocks, finishing what the pickaxes could not.

The scatter here is called the Eye Symbol. Three or more on the top reels start a bonus of 4 free spins. The count looks modest, but the count is not what works: the mine does not reset between spins. Everything you cleared on the triggering spin stays cleared, and the next pickaxe lands on deeper layers.
Two buttons shorten the wait. Extra Chance costs 3x the bet and raises the odds of catching scatters on the next spin. Block Bonus costs 100x and takes you straight in. The first game offers nothing else; the seven-button buy menu arrives only in the sequel.

That last figure needs reading correctly. An observed monthly return is what the game paid over one stretch of time, not how it is configured. The configuration is fixed at 96%, which is a 4% house edge. Over a short window the observed figure drifts above and below that, and on such a sample it should.
