No rule sets the number of free spins here. Once the bonus triggers, nine covered cells appear, you scratch the covering off, and the symbol that lands three times decides: 3, 4 or 5. Everything else carried over from the first game, including the 5x7 field, the six blocks and the same chests.
Mine Drop, Mine Drop 2 and Mine Slot always award 4 spins. Here a small game sits in that place. The screen says pick three alike, a three by three grid appears below it, and the cells are hidden under a grey covering. You scratch it off by hand, or press auto-pick and skip the dragging.
The symbol that appears three times first becomes your spin count, anywhere from three to five. This is the only point in the whole family where a separate screen, rather than a rule, sets the number of free spins.
One caveat matters: the spread runs both ways. Three spins is fewer than the guaranteed four in the first game. So the sequel did not make the bonus better, it added risk to it.

What changed is the palette. Blue daylight became a purple sunset, pink flowers appeared on the ground, the mobs grew wings, and the buy screen turned red and orange. The chicken, for what it is worth, stayed.
